Of tourists and ponies

American Tourister - that's what i had planned to call my sojourn in the USA - An opportunist in the Land of Opportunities. There is no doubt that I am an opportunist. We all are - how much ever we deny it. But then the word "Tourister" has a strange inevitability to it, for I am not a tourist.

Today, I got my ticket, after a lot of deliberations about when to leave and how to leave. Finally I put in my money on Lufthansa, the least due to the fact that they are my customers. I do not carry any misplaced loyalties to my customers outside the office. It was merely a choice based out of experience and sheer laziness.

The third of April marks the anniversary of the foundation of the famous Pony Express, the precursor of the US Postage system, where mail was transported across the country on horse and rider relay teams. It had captured the imagination of a country. My imagination has to wait a few more days.

A week later I would be off, facing new challenges in the so-called Land of Opportunities. A week further, I would perhaps be roaming in the streets of the historic city of Philadelphia. Another week further - to the people of this city, to those who see me everyday today - I would be history.

For...we remember others only in the hour of our need.

Quiz Question - Name the award winning film based on a true story, by M K Indira, which was made into an award winning movie, and had a song - 'Runner' ??

RS, You deserve an explanation : Remember this - 'Good Friends are the spice in our lives, they add flavor to a day'. You can take it from me, who is alive only because she has a bunch of good friends, despite everything - no questions asked.

The blog entry was totally against my world view; that was the reason for the first entry...Also, JK Rowling earned millions telling people, which was known already - 'A friend in need is a friend indeed' ...Physical boundaries, do not matter in matters of heart, which is the fountainhead of this wonderful relationship...As your posts & profile shows, you have been a good one yourself. Hence, do not worry - 'Opportunism' does not equate to 'No friends'. Have a nice Journey.....DJ.

Ahh...Madam, i practise what i preach...I am all that bad things that i talk about in my writing. As Vishalakshi says, "he's the guy your mother warned you about". I guess i take that as a license to write.

And, well...I prefer Star Wars to JK Rowling - just because it is more darker than the HP series, and there is no covert commercialism(it's there, but wide open) like in JK's writing.

PS: The Grand Gendas have still not conferred :)

May be the 'Lord' added to your name is shortened version of 'Lord Voldemort' - Please enlighten the etymology.

BTW, I was trying decipher the other one - GOAT - God of All Things - GOAT translated in Kannada is - MEKE (remember MEKE DAATU?) - AADU (another name for the same animal in Kannada) - now translate it back to English - ODD - Your mother probably was tired of oddities in life ; few people try being different, and stand out from the crowd....

BTW, one serial from Childhood which I liked watching was 'Different Strokes'.....

The Hippopotamus

Behold the hippopotamus!
We laugh at how he looks to us,
And yet in moments dank and grim,
I wonder how we look to him.

Peace, peace, thou hippopotamus!
We really look all right to us,
As you no doubt delight the eye
Of other hippopotami.

-- Ogden Nash

As the Grand Gendas are taking too long to send an invite, I am starting an ORDER of my own; only Hippos are welcome!!

Now for the etymology of DJ :

What did Narada tell Valmiki, when he was hunting people? According to one Kannada version of Ramayana, he was told by Narada to utter 'MARA' 'MARA' continuously...as you know, 'R' is difficult letter - few kids usually learn late....So, say 10 times 'DJ' and you would not be 'dreaming' of becoming a 'JD' are already one!!

Hippopotamus club has a 'NO ENTRY' board as of now..

Voldemort is nothing compared to the Dark Lord - Lord Darth Vader.

The Dark Side has more powers than you can ever imagine...

Gendas are better any given day

Dear Grand Genda,

Try making a sandwich out of a Hippo ...May be Genda's are good at eating 'sleeping giants'...

Here is the recipe:

Recipe for a Hippopotamus Sandwich

A hippo sandwich is easy to make.
All you do is simply take
One slice of bread,
One slice of cake,
Some mayonnaise
One onion ring,
One hippopotamus
One piece of string,
A dash of pepper -
That ought to do it.
And now comes the problem...
Biting into it!

- Shel Silverstein

BTW, I never told you that am an animagi & can metamorphose into other forms of li.....when I am really bored, will try which I have not done so far - to become a Grand Genda!

Lord Ravi, to make things more clear to dumb order of Hippopotamus, you may please consider calling yourself 'Sith Lord Ravi'...Anyways, we the Hippos, prefer Luke Skywalker to Lord Darth Vader - Death redeems Lord Darth as well, as he finally admits, that good within him was not destroyed after all.....

BTW, when did the Grand Genda decide to abandon the Jedi Knights to worship the ultimate Dark Lord?

POWER...ABSOLUTE POWER...

But then as you know, with great power comes a great electricity bill

'But then as you know, with great power comes a great electricity bill'

That is a good one... can I quote you? :)

Mostly Sharamless said...

it is not exactly my quote...I dunno the origin of it

Anonymous said...

Hippo wakes up from his slumber to remark 'If I had POWER....AND ABSOLUTE POWER...and end up getting a great electricity bill because of that, I will get the GENDAs to pay for it'.....

....and he goes back to sleep!

Anonymous said...

As he was yawning, I heard him also add : To Have / Be 'THE ABSOLUTE POWER' is not the question....it is a matter of choice.....

Anonymous said...

.......Quote "To Be And Not To Be, That is the Answer" Unquote....

Anonymous said...

As is the norm, ends his conversation with a favorite "Grook" - Hippo's favorite poetic form, for expressing his thoughts in Kannada...as Genda doesn't understand his language, he quotes one from the master.....

A Psychological Tip

Whenever you're called on to make up your mind,
and you're hampered by not having any,
the best way to solve the dilemma, you'll find,
is simply by spinning a penny.

No - not so that chance shall decide the affair
while you're passively standing there moping;
but the moment the penny is up in the air,
you suddenly know what you're hoping

- Piet Hein
